Young Sherlock Holmes stars reunite 41 years after release of beloved film for new adventure with classic detective

The new audio drama series, Sir Sherlock: The Doctor’s Son, was entirely funded by fans on Kickstarter in the space of four hours, and will be the fourth tale in the Sir Sherlock expansion.

Rowe and Cox shot to fame in 1985’s Young Sherlock Holmes, playing teenage versions of the titular sleuth and his long-standing sidekick, John Watson, in the family adventure produced by Steven Spielberg, written by Chris Columbus and directed by Barry Levinson.

But this time they'll not be picking up the deerstalker hats and pipes, instead playing new characters as part of The Doctor’s Son.

Doctor Who’s Tom Baker will play Sherlock, with John Leeson voicing Dr John Watson and Katy Ashworth plays Emily Lestrade.

In the new story, Sherlock finds himself wrapped in a mystery unlike any he’s faced before when Dr John Watson disappears from his bedroom at 221b Baker Street.

Shortly after, a ransom note is delivered by a young man who claims to be Watson’s illegitimate son.

The synopsis questions: "Is this a kidnapping to extort money or a genuine countdown to the good Doctor’s demise?"

Rowe will voice Norton, while Cox will play Damien Barrett, the young spoken young man who bears a striking resemblance to the missing Doctor.

Speaking of joining the new audio story, Cox said: "It was wonderful to be involved in this imaginative dive into a familiar world, and to be part of a legendary troupe of storytellers was a real thrill."

"Getting to dig into a Sherlock Holmes story again with Nick Rowe and lift it off the page felt just like old times, and all our familiar in-jokes came flooding back," he added.

"There were some lovely little callbacks to Young Sherlock Holmes in the script too, which particularly tickled us."

Sir Sherlock: The Doctor’s Son is created by AUK Studios, and has been written, produced and directed by Barnaby Eaton-Jones, who also lends his voice to the characters of Billy Treacher and Constable Davies.
