Breakout pop voice has shared new EP ‘Should I block him?’ in full.
The songwriter has been ultra-focused on her pop goals since she was 13 years old, a prodigal force with an instinctive knack for connection.
2022’s breakout single ‘Mr Valentine’ displayed YAZ enthusing about matters of the heart, something that fuels her new EP.
A triptych of will-they-won’t-they dating hymns, ‘Should I block him?’ is the pure, undiluted ruth of a woman online in 2026.
The spicy melodies find the listener wrapped around her little finger, but YAZ forever employs a sting in the tail.
Out now in full, the EP finds YAZ beginning to dream of something bigger – her debut album. Introducing the release, she comments…
I think there’s something silly and sad about the way romance works now. I wrote the ‘Should I block him?’ EP in February of this year on a writing trip to LA. I was being ghosted and feeling quite cynical and lonely – the pinnacle was being alone in my hotel room on Valentine’s Day. I thought I had wasted the trip, but on the last day we listened to these 3 songs, and I felt so inspired and excited that something good had come out of feeling so low.
The 3 songs are about navigating modern dating – breakups, situationships, mixed signals and caring too much about someone who probably isn’t thinking about you. It’s some of the most fun and honest music I’ve made.
I see the project as a continuation of “Dancing in my Room”, but also a bridge between that and my debut album. I sent the songs to my girls’ group chat with the text “Should I block him?” and when I saw it on my screen, it immediately became the title.
Over the past few months, these 3 songs have had such a strong presence and purpose in my life. I’m really excited for people to finally hear them and hopefully see a bit of themselves in them too.
Tune in now.
