*Warning - contains spoilers for Ted Lasso season 4 episodes 1-9.*
It is set to be quite the finale, picking up after the tragic death of Mae, Keeley Roy finding out they are expecting a baby, and the secretly villainous Zelda plotting to take Richmond AFC from Rebecca.
The third season, which aired back in 2023, ended on a somewhat final note, before the series made a surprise return this year. However, what will be the situation after season 4? Is there another run on the cards, or will this be it for the titular coach, once and for all?
Read on for everything you need to know about the potential for a Ted Lasso season 5.
Will there be a Ted Lasso season 5?
We don't yet know for certain whether there will be a fifth season of Ted Lasso, as the show hasn't been officially renewed at this point.
However, fans can take heart in the fact that Jason Sudeikis and the team certainly seem to want another season.
Sudeikis told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted season 4 to kickstart another three season arc - while the first three seasons told the story of Ted coaching the men's team, the next three would tell the story of the women's team. This would take the show right through to season 6.
"I think there’s plenty of stories to go on. We’ll show up. No worries," Cue said.
We will keep this page updated with any news of a season 5 renewal as and when we get it.
When could a potential Ted Lasso season 5 be released?
We don't yet know when Ted Lasso season 5 would arrive, not least because Apple has not formally renewed the show yet.
However, we can look at the production timeline on previous seasons for guidance. Season 4 started filming in July 2025, and arrived almost exactly a year later, in August 2026. Meanwhile, season 3 started filming in March 2022, and arrived on screens in March 2023.
As the show doesn't yet have an official renewal, we can't imagine it will begin filming until early 2027 at the earliest. If, like seasons 3 and 4, it takes a year to complete production and post production, we would therefore predict that a release date in could be possible.
Of course, this is all just speculation for now, and we will keep this page updated with any more concrete news as and when we get it.
Who would star in a potential Ted Lasso season 5?
As season 5 hasn't yet been confirmed, no official cast has been announced. However, if the show does return, we'd certainly imagine that the core cast would be back, led by Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift and Tanya Reynolds.
We would also expect the cast members who play the Richmond women's team members to be back, as Sudeikis has talked about developing another three season arc centred around them.
One central figure we wouldn't expect to be back is Annette Badland as Mae, after her character tragically died in season 4 episode 9.
Here's the full list of the central cast members we would expect to return for Ted Lasso season 5 at this point:
- Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso
- Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Walton
- Juno Temple as Keeley Jones
- Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent
- Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard
- Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins
- Tanya Reynolds as Alice Chilton
- Andrea Anders as Michelle Lasso
- Grant Feely as Henry Lasso
- Tracey Ullman as Zelda Southport
