If you have been waiting for news of Outer Banks season 6, there is a simple answer: it's not happening.
Netflix confirmed back in November 2024 that the treasure-hunting YA hit would end with its fifth season, a successful run that co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke have described as the planned conclusion to the Pogues' story.
That fifth and final chapter now has a home and can be streamed on Netflix, with all 10 episodes dropping at once rather than being split into parts. The decision to wrap the series is a creative one rather than a cancellation, rooted in the vision the writers set out when the show launched during the April 2020 pandemic.

Will there be an Outer Banks season 6?
No, Outer Banks will not return for a sixth season.
When Netflix renewed the show in November 2024, it was announced that season 5 would be the show's last, bringing the story to a close.
The ending was baked into the concept from the start. In a "Dispatch to all Pogues" letter to fans, the Pate brothers and Burke explained that a summer 2017 photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage inspired the series, and that they had always imagined "a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship".
At the time, they admitted, "it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story".
Why isn't Outer Banks returning for season 6?
Outer Banks is ending because its creators planned it that way, not because Netflix pulled the plug on an underperforming show. Far from it: across its first four seasons the series spent 27 weeks in the global top 10 English TV list, and season 4 part 1 debuted at number one following its October 2024 release.
Announcing the final run, the co-creators framed the decision around finishing the story on their own terms.
"With a little sadness, but also excitement, we're putting Season Four behind us, and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago," they wrote. "Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet". They signed off with "P4L" (Pogues for Life).
When is the final season of Outer Banks out?
Season 5, the final season, premieres on Netflix on Thursday 20 August 2026. Unlike season 4, which was divided into two parts to extend its cultural run, the concluding season will release all 10 of its episodes at once.
