A lot of things have changed about BBC thriller Vigil over the years. While the first season was set on a submarine and the second in a Middle Eastern state, the third takes place on the Norwegian archipelago, Svalbard, and looks at the future of the arctic in geopolitical terms.
However, there are some elements which have remained the same. Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie still star as Amy Silva and Kirsten Longacre, and there is still at least one suspicious death to investigate each season.
Something else which has remained is the show's tense atmosphere, which is once again helped along by the same eerie theme song which plays over the opening credits. But who sings it?

Danish singer-songwriter 's haunting song Fuel to the Fire is the Vigil theme song, with the song having originally been released on her 2013 album Aventine.

It's far from the first time that one of Obel's songs has been used in the soundtrack for a TV series - in fact, the exact same song appeared in the fifth episode of The Last of Us season 1.
Other critically acclaimed shows from recent years that have dipped into her back catalogue include Big Little Lies, The Leftovers and Euphoria.
Further series on which Obel's music has featured include The Mist, Grey's Anatomy, Lovesick, The Rain, Dark and The Originals, while her track Familiar is the theme song for the Canadian drama Cardinal, and was also used in a trailer for the popular video game Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition – not a bad CV!

Born in Denmark in 1980, Obel started recording music in 2010, and in the time since has released four studio albums, winning critical applause and accumulating several awards – including Best Album and Best Debut Artist at the Danish Music Awards in 2011 and the IMPALA Album of the Year Award 2016.
Her most recent album, Myopia, was released in 2020 and received more strong reviews, charting at 11 in the Danish album charts (and 34 in the UK).
Vigil season 3 will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 30 August. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
