The wait is finally over. After 15 years of talk, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have locked in a date for their long-awaited showdown.
Fury and Joshua – the two biggest names in modern British boxing – have been sizing each other up for a decade but for years it seemed as though the 'Battle of Britain' would never happen. Destined instead to forever remain a fantasy and one of the sport's great 'what ifs'.
However, boxing fans have been handed an early Christmas present as it has now been confirmed that the two of the finest heavyweights of their generation, both former world champions, will step into the ring in December.
Dana White, CEO of UFC and one of the fight organisers, said in the announcement: "For more than a decade, boxing fans have been clamouring for the heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
"Together, they bring 66 wins, 52 knockouts and multiple heavyweight world titles into the ring. On December 11, two of the biggest heavyweights of this generation finally collide - and the winner will take a significant place in heavyweight history."
It has also been confirmed that Fury and Joshua will appear at a press conference in London on Wednesday 30 September as the build-up for the 'Battle of Britain' accelerates.
