For the third edition of Sound & Vision, McCartney personally selected the lyric “Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash as we fell into the sun” from "Band on the Run", the title track from the 1973 album by Paul McCartney and Wings.
The line serves as a starting point for several artists to create a collection of original artworks that will be exhibited at Iconic Images Gallery between 6-8 November 2026 and auctioned online to raise money for War Child, supporting their work providing specialist mental health support, education, protection, and immediate aid to children whose lives have been devastated by war.
This year's artists include painter Genieve Figgis, multidisciplinary artist Alvaro Barrington, British-Ghanaian painter Joshua Donkor, Moscow-born painter and sculptor Sanya Kantarovsky, illustrator George Underwood, and more, all of whom offer a unique perspective on McCartney's lyrical prompt.
The first edition of Sound & Vision was inspired by a lyric from David Bowie. Last year, Kate Bush selected the lyric for the second edition, which raised more than £140,000 for War Child.
“We couldn’t be more grateful to Paul McCartney for donating his lyric from Band on the Run for Sound & Vision this year," says Charlotte Nimmo, Fundraising Engagement Director at War Child UK. "It’s also wonderful to see that yet again, some of the most exciting names in the visual arts space have been inspired by his music to create new work, raising vital funds to support War Child’s work in some of the most dangerous parts of the world.
“The interplay of music and art is a core part of what we do at War Child, always working to support our incredible programmatic teams to deliver specialist mental health services, education, protection, immediate aid and more where it’s desperately needed," she continues.
"As of December 2025, more than 60,000 children in Gaza have been killed. In Sudan, more than 5 million children have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, and since Paul first started supporting us in the 1990’s, the share of children affected by war has more than doubled to 20% of all children globally. By bidding on one of these brilliant pieces of art this year, not only can art and music lovers take home a piece by - or inspired by - their favourite artist, but they will be directly supporting the protection of children whose lives have been devastated by war.”
