High-stakes drama Trigger Point is back for a fourth season, with Vicky McClure returning as bomb disposal expert Lana Washington.
Lana and her team, including Danny (Eric Shango), Hass (Nabil Elouahabi) and DCI Batra (Maanuv Thiara), have a new boss (played by The Hardacres’ Julie Graham), and a fresh case to solve as the season kicks off with the threat of a bomb exploding in the heart of central London.
Trigger Point has been a ratings hit for ITV, and in an exclusive interview with Radio Times, McClure revealed whether the show’s many fans can expect Lana and the gang to strap on their helmets and body armour for more seasons after this fourth one.
"Who knows?" she said. "For me, it always boils down to the audience. They’re the deciders and, my word, they’ve been so supportive to Trigger Point over the years. I try not to stress too much about [rating] figures because they’re not what they used to be anymore, but we still get really good figures, so that means something.
"We’re really proud of it. If everyone watches and everybody in their droves are going, ‘this can’t be the end,’ then there’s a conversation to be had."
Trigger Point is known for killing off fan favourite characters when you least expect it, including Lana’s colleagues Joel Nutkins (Adrian Lester in season one) and Rich Manning (Mark Rowley in season three), meaning that no one, not even Lana, is safe from those exploding incendiary devices. McClure, who is also a producer on the show, won’t confirm whether Lana or anyone else is still alive at the end of the new season, or who might return if there is a season five.
"We’ll see who makes it to the end," she teased, while co-star Eric Shango admitted that the first thing he does at the start of each season is to read the script to find out if his own character, Danny, survives.
"As everyone opens up the script, I go right to the back page. If you see your character’s name is on the last couple of pages or the last couple of scenes, it’s great, we’re still in it," he said.
Shango also thinks the new season of Trigger Point has even higher stakes than before, which will keep viewers on the edge of their seats guessing which members of the EXPO team might end up on the wrong end of a ticking time bomb.

"[This season] is more belligerent, more rebellious. It’s still the show you expect, but what you see this time around is just everything’s a lot more chaotic," he said.
"There’s a lot more at stake and the threat is 10 times the size, which obviously then creates sub stories within, between the characters and their own personal lives. And I think it’s just us trying to manage it all as best we can."
"It’s just gone up a level, in every sense," he added. "I don’t think the audience will be able to relax!"
