Ugly unveil new single, "In Samphedoo"

"In Samphedoo" follows previous singles "Marina", "Nat Cora & The Nations", and "Gallowine". The track was written between vocal sessions and writing retreats, as singer and keyboardist Jasmine Miller-Sauchella explains: “The very bare bones of In Samphedoo were actually discovered in early 2023, when Tom, Harry, and I were in the middle of a vocal session.

"Tom was playing around on the keys with this meditative mellotron-like sound (very reminiscent of Strawberry Fields), whilst we all tried to find a fitting melody. Like many of our songs, it started with no real words but sounds. Harry made the name ‘In Samphedoo’ up on the spot (as he did with many of the song names on the album), explaining it was his ‘cave dweller impersonation’.”

“Everyday was music, so when we finally had a break or went to bed, that’s when non-music thoughts would creep in," she continues. "A lot of various emotions came up for me (as I’m sure they did for the others as well), but when writing 'In Samphedoo', I was reminded of my personal relationship with my father (who is alive, yet not present in my life) and the relationship I had with my grandfather (who is not alive, yet was very present in my life). The chorus encompasses these feelings of desperately trying to reach someone when they’re not there (either physically, emotionally, or both).”
