Tusks Captures The Impact Of Grief On New Album ‘How Can I Be The Same’

has confirmed plans for new album ‘How Can I Be The Same’.

The new album will be released on February 12th, and it represents one of the composer’s most emotionally open works to date. Spurred into being by the loss of a close friend to cancer, the songs are a frank, mirror-like depiction of the grieving process.

A project of palpable intimacy, the reflective songwriting was steered by Tusks alone – this is the first to be produced entirely by Emily Underhill.

She comments:“One of the things I found the hardest about dealing with my friend’s death was the regret I felt at not making more of our friendship. I think I’ve always suffered with a bit of social anxiety which I think can make you feel isolated sometimes and keep people more at arms length and deal with things alone and this song is my frustration and anger at that and wishing I didn’t work like that.”

During the process of making the record, Tusks undertook a two-month residency at The Townshend Studio, home to Pete Townshend’s extraordinary collection of priceless synthesisers.

Utilising the likes of the EMS Synthi 100, ARP 2500, Yamaha GX-1 and CS80, the human aspects of these analogue instruments frame the album as a whole.

New song ‘How Can I Be The Same’ is out now – beautifully done, it reflects Tusks’ feelings of loss back at herself, a probing work of piercing beauty.
