Netflix is returning to the world of Top Boy with not one but two new spin-off series.
The streaming giant confirmed the news at the Edinburgh TV Festival 2026 on Wednesday (26 August 2026), with Barry Keoghan and Jasmine Jobson both reprising their acclaimed roles from the drama for their own respective spin-offs.
The announcement, part of Netflix's new UK slate, greenlights Jonny Boy, a five-episode prequel following Keoghan's Irish gangster Jonny, and Jaq (working title), a six-episode series centred on Jobson's fan-favourite dealer. Both come from Cowboy Films, the company behind the original series.
Jonny Boy is written and created by the original Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett, with Saltburn star Keoghan, who joined Top Boy for its third and final Netflix season in 2023 as Jonny, an intimidating member of an Irish crime outfit, reprising the role.
Keoghan is also producing through his company WolfCub Productions, and Ali Abbasi is attached to direct.
"WOLFCUB Productions is proud to bring Jonny McGee, the character introduced in Top Boy's third and final season, to the screen in Jonny Boy," said WolfCub founders Keoghan and Des Byrne. "We pitched our vision and idea to Netflix and the Executive Producers, and they were so supportive in wanting to bring our passion project forward, exploring Jonny McGee's origin story through a new bold lens."
At Edinburgh TV Festival 2026, Anne Mensah, Netflix's Vice President of UK Content, described Jonny Boy as a project that "has got a love story" at its heart.
Meanwhile, the second series, Jaq, is created and written by Ryan Calais Cameron and sees Jobson reprise her role as Jaq, the character for which she won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in 2024.
Jobson had publicly campaigned for a Jaq-focused spin-off after her BAFTA win and told the press previously that she wanted to explore the character further.
At Edinburgh, Mensah called Jaq an "exceptional character" who deserved her own space, adding that the original Top Boy remains "still iconic" and that "there's a space in British television that doesn't have iconic Black characters at the heart of their shows" like Top Boy.
Jobson has since appeared in the Tom Hardy crime series MobLand.
Top Boy began on Channel 4 in 2011 before Netflix rebooted it in 2019 following interest from Drake, who remains an executive producer on these new projects through DreamCrew Entertainment.
The drama concluded in September 2023, with Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson leading its final run.
Both spin-offs are expected to begin filming in 2027, with Netflix yet to confirm release dates.
