Tom Baker on reuniting with Doctor Who co-star for new audio adventure: "David Tennant won’t love him like I do!"

Tom Baker has reunited with a very special Doctor Who co-star for his new Sherlock Holmes audio dramas.

The Fourth Doctor actor is reprising his role as the famous detective in AUK's Sir Sherlock series, with the next story aptly being titled The Doctor's Son. As the Kickstarter for the story launches, he's reflected on working once again with John Leeson, who voiced K9 in Doctor Who, and who's voicing John Watson in Sir Sherlock.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Times, Baker said: "Ah, K9! How wonderful to be reunited with John Leeson. He’s always such an encouraging actor and shamelessly boosting my ego.

"He just is so easy to work with. Very supportive. A lot of silent ‘thumbs-up’ to each other. I guess because we’ve known each other for such a long time now, it just has its own chemistry.

"I mean, I know he’s been doing a bit of moonlighting by working with other Doctors but come on, David Tennant won’t love him like I do!"

Baker has played the role of Sherlock Holmes various times in his career, in the BBC's 1982 series The Hound of the Baskervilles, in the 1985 stage play The Mask of Moriarty, and now in AUK's audio drama series.

Speaking about returning to the role, Baker said: "The sheer pleasure of waking up and knowing you’re going to be engaged in something exciting, like being an actor.

"Holmes was a frustrated actor. All those disguises and voices he used over the stories. Yes, he was an old ham. But that quality Holmes has of never apologising, he needs to get things right.

"With a certain charm and tact. Oh yes, I can tell a lie to get my own way with the best of them!"

He added: "So, really, I can be a bit like Holmes as an actor and as a person, I suppose. I bring myself to the role more than the other times I’ve played him, I guess.

"I like people to like what I do and, if I’ve got the power, being allowed to do it my way. If I haven’t got the power, I just have to go along with it."

Sir Sherlock: The Doctor’s Son is the fourth adventure in the Sir Sherlock series from AUK Studios. The three previous adventures are: The Red Letter Day, The Sickle and the Sea and The Parting Shot.
