They Are Gutting a Body of Water have shared two new songs.
The pivotal American band have completed work on a mammoth new album, with the 29-track mixtape ‘KOOL FAITH / LOOSIES II’ set to land on October 16th.
A huge undertaking, the band’s Doug Dulgarian intends the release to act as a feel for their own creativity, while also platforming the multitude of voices that exist in their community. He comments:
“The word mixtape initially meant a homespun tape that you typically listened to yourself or gave to somebody else. For me who was born later, it meant mashups of all my favorite artists by local DJs. And so that’s what I did with this one, mashups of all my favorite artists. Shoutout DJ WHITEOWL, RIP.”
This communal music-making ethos rings out on their new singles. ‘illusion hue’ boasts contribution from Toner, the project of Oakland-based musician , while ‘am i wrong’ is lit up by fellow Philadelphia-based band A Country Western and Dead Sullivan, the project of Texas-based musician .
Taken as a piece, the double release illustrates the incoming tape’s breadth, and also the group’s continued creative vitality.
Tune in now.
