The team behind the beloved games has shared an update on its mysterious new IP, known as “Project Hadar”.
CD Projekt Red have just finished work on an ambitious The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remaster project and are due to launch new expansion next year.
The studio has confirmed they’re working on a brand new game too, that’ll see Ciri take over from Geralt as the main protagonist. There’s also a sequel that’s been in the works since 2023 and more remakes.
This week, CD Projekt Red boss Michał Nowakowski gave an update on their secretive new franchise that’s being developed under the name “Project Hadar”. The brand new IP is being created from scratch at the studio, and was first announced back in 2022. “The project is in the earliest stages of the creative process, which means we are not developing any game yet, but working exclusively on the foundation for this new setting,” said CD Projekt Red at the time.
In a new interview with Polish publication (via ) Nowakowski said: “This has been our biggest undertaking to date, taking us several years, but at this point we can say we have a coherent vision for this world and its key elements. The team has begun work on the game, although it’s not yet in pre-production.” Prototypes have been created but the project doesn’t currently have a release date.
Earlier this year, CD Projekt Red were looking to recruit an engineer director to help “push the envelope for the next, immersive game in the Hadar world, creating an emotional, open-world experience that will stay with gamers.”
The Witcher 4 is set to launch in 2028 and developers have said the next two games in the new trilogy won’t be far behind it. “Our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between The Witcher 4 and 5, between 5 and 6, and so on,” said Nowakowski.
