CD Projekt Red has confirmed a target release window for the next instalment in The Witcher series.
The announcement was made in a social media video released ahead of this year’s Gamescom, where co-CEO Michal Nowakowski began: "Our team here at CD Projekt Red HQ is hard at work on a brand new saga, one with Ciri at the helm."
The confirmation that Ciri will be the sole main protagonist of The Witcher 4, passing the torch over from Geralt, seems like a natural progression that will certainly have fans hyped.
However, Nowakowski had further news to share: "We have more than 500 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you. The Witcher 4 features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay, and a deep, impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time.

"Simply put, this is our biggest, our boldest and most ambitious game to date. Now I know you’re eager to learn when it’s coming. That’s the question we’re hearing from you all the time.
"So while we’re not showing The Witcher 4 at the event and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window."

Despite the fact further information will not be revealed at Gamescom, the official release window is a huge update for fans who have been waiting since The Witcher 4 was first announced in 2024 during The Game Awards.
Before this release window, fans have only had snippets of what’s to come, including a tech demo released in 2025 to show what The Witcher 4 will look like on the PlayStation 5.
Now with a target release date in mind, fans can look forward to what 2028 will bring, and with Gamescon this week, perhaps things are only just beginning…
