CD Projekt Red is a force to be reckoned with at the moment, and that's only become more apparent with a shock remaster announced for The Witcher 3.
It's been a big day, week, and indeed year for The Witcher so far. After announcing that The Witcher 4 is in development, we got confirmation from CDPR earlier this year that a new DLC is on the way for The Witcher 3 – Songs of the Stone.
And now, if that wasn't enough, CDPR confirmed as part of Gamescom 2026's Opening Night Live showcase that there is a remaster on the way for the game.
The remaster will be a completely free upgrade for all current owners of the game, and will include both existing DLCs – Hearts of Stone and Bood and Wine – whether you already own the game or not.

Naturally, the most prominent feature of the new remaster is a graphical upgrade, bringing the now 11-year-old game more in line with the visuals of modern games.
But beyond that, there are a huge number of changes coming to the game to improve the original.
As part of the remaster, The Witcher 3 will receive enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, a Witcher Signs fix, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviours, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, new finishers, and plenty more that wasn't even explicitly mentioned.

The remaster arrives later this year on 29 September, giving us plenty of time to dive in and get a new playthrough done in time for the launch of the new DLC.
In addition to the remaster news, we did get a brief look at the new DLC with a short trailer, although we didn't get any further news on a release date.
At the moment, it is expected that the DLC will launch in 2027, although this is just speculation.
Still, with The Witcher 4 not launching until 2028 at the earliest, we're certainly not going to say no to another chance to enjoy Geralt's last adventure one more time.
