Sir Tom Jones will reportedly have a reduced role on the next season of The Voice UK, with ITV said to be planning a major refresh to its coaching panel.

The 86-year-old music legend has been a fixture on The Voice UK since it launched in 2012 – first on the BBC and later on ITV – missing out on only one season back in 2016 before being reinstated the following year.

According to The Sun, Sir Tom would no longer keep his own chair or mentor his own team of contestants as part of the shake-up. ITV is said to be exploring how it might keep him associated with the programme in another capacity, rather than removing him entirely.

Following the reports, a source told Radio Times: "ITV absolutely loves working with Sir Tom. They are in talks with him and are hopeful he will return to the series."

The Sun reports that Aitch will be joining the show, replacing McFly duo Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher, who are said to be leaving after the current season.

Cheryl is also thought to be making her return to television as a coach, alongside will.i.am and Kelly Rowland, who is reportedly staying on as a coach for a second season.

A source previously told the publication: "Every year producers ask Cheryl to go on the show, and it’s a polite ‘no’ as the timing has never quite been right. This year it’s different. She feels ready to re-enter the spotlight and talks are now in the final stages."

ITV has not yet commented on reports of Cheryl or Aitch joining the show.

The Voice UK continues on Saturday 12 September at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
