The story follows a disgraced FBI agent, played by Mackie, and an American career criminal, played by Dornan, locked in a zero-sum game of cat and mouse across Europe. At its centre is a daring, epic raid on a bank vault buried deep beneath the streets of Zurich.

Each episode of 12 12 12 unfolds across three timelines of a single heist: the 12 months of planning, the 12 hours of the heist itself, and the 12 days that follow – as explained in the trailer, if they aren't caught in that time, they're highly likely to get away with the plot.

These days, Mackie is probably best known for his extensive work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where his character, Sam Wilson, has recently been promoted from Falcon to inheriting the mantle of Captain America.

His journey to claiming the shield was chronicled in Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with 12 12 12 being a reunion for Mackie and director Kari Skogland, who has worked across both shows.

Meanwhile, Dornan earned high praise for his work on BBC thriller The Tourist, which ran for two seasons, with other notable credits including The Fall, Belfast and Fifty Shades of Grey.

The ensemble around the two leads includes Jack Kesy (12 Strong), Agathe Rousselle (Titane), Sallie Harmsen (Blade Runner 2049), Jose Garcia (Now You See Me) and Emmy Award nominee Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country), among others.

Behind the camera, the series is created and executive produced by Dudi Appleton (Silent Witness) and Jim Keeble (Wild Bill), with the aforementioned Skogland as lead director.
