The cast of The Testaments season 2 is taking shape as two series regulars have been confirmed for the upcoming instalment – with one being promoted from his season 1 role.
It's now been confirmed that Charlie Carrick, who plays Commander Judd, has been promoted to a series regular, with Haley Wong also joining the cast as new character Prudence.
Described as "a dutiful and pregnant wife who will carve out a space for joy, even if doing so risks everything" (via Deadline), Prudence doesn't feature in the original Margaret Atwood novel so there's no telling just how she'll slot into things as of now.
Having starred in a string of short films, The Testaments will mark Wong's first major TV role.
As for Carrick being upped to a series regular, that only means that we'll be seeing plenty more of Judd – which underlines the fact he will be more of a focal point in episodes to come.
As we saw in The Testaments season 1, Judd was a key orchestrator of Gilead and was seen trying to divide and conquer when it came to Aunt Lydia and Aunt Vidala. We see him and his wife Penny navigate multiple miscarriages, but fans have all been in agreement that he's far more sinister than meets the eye.
In the novel, Judd is characterised as having a string of young, child brides and "disposing" of them when they get too old for his liking. Seeing as Penny is really struggling, all eyes will undoubtedly be on their dynamic to see if Judd's portrayal sticks true to the book or whether it will throw another spanner in the works.
So far, he's been very understanding of the Plums and Greens, taking a particular interest in Agnes. But seeing as Agnes's own engagement was called off, we see her back at school in the finale with Daisy and Shunammite and has vowed to create her own army as she's now privy to the true darkness of Gilead, could Judd actually reveal himself to be Agnes's main villain? It's all very plausible, especially as the stage is set for some serious rebellion in season 2.

The last we saw of Judd was him promoting Garth to be a Commander and also underlining to Aunt Lydia that they are no longer working as a team, favouring the outcome of making Becka a Handmaid rather than being killed for her crimes. Of course, Becka made it out alive of season 1 and married Garth, but Judd's sinister motives are already clear – and are likely only set to get more nefarious.
Production for the second season kicked off last month so we can anticipate some further exciting updates to come, but we do know that the main cast of Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday and Ann Dowd will all be reprising their leading roles.
Other season 1 cast members that we'd anticipate the return of include Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya and Kira Guloien.
