Ryan Murphy's adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's novel The Shards continues to bring a touch of '80s Los Angeles glamour to our streaming choices, with the drama only notching up as the episodes go on.
This week's new episode, Murder on the Dancefloor, does what it sets out to do from the title, setting the stage for quite the slasher sequence from the show's stalking serial killer.
The nine-part series premiered on Disney+ in the UK and on FX and Hulu in the US, with the first two episodes throwing us straight into the world of a Ellis's teenage years as an aspiring writer attending an affluent LA prep school in 1981.
In an interview with Radio Times, executive producers Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson said The Shards is not conceived as a limited series, with Simpson noting the show is "certainly set up to continue on through their senior year" and that Ellis had "always wanted it to be an ongoing series".

When are episodes 6 and 7 of The Shards released?
Episode 6 and 7 come as a two-part continuation, titled Homecoming Part One and Two. They'll therefore be released alongside each other on on Disney+ in the UK.
In the US, both episodes arrive a day earlier on Wednesday 26 August 2026 at 9pm ET / 6pm PT on FX, with them being available to stream on Hulu.

The Shards is made up of , released across a mix of double bills and single weekly drops, with the finale, Stairway to Heaven, landing on 10 September in the UK and 9 September in the US.
Beyond this run, the producers have indicated they hope to continue the story into future seasons.

In the UK, The Shards streams exclusively on , with new episodes added on Thursdays. In the US, episodes air on on Wednesdays at 9pm ET and stream on .
Because of the transatlantic scheduling, UK Disney+ releases land a day after the US FX and Hulu drops throughout the run.
