The duo is made up of Charlie Ziman and Nathan Tsunoda. Ziman's main gig to date has been as producer for viral LA songwriter Malcolm Todd, but he and Tsunoda adhered to a less poppy production style for their first album, the follow-up to last year's EP. It instead indulges their shared Californian influences – from Sublime to Tame Impala. "Hopefully, the record will become a classic in 20 years," Ziman said.
According to the duo, the seven-minute lead single explores "the contrast between the peace of the present moment and the 'what ifs' of how it will end."
As for that indie sleaze stuff, Ziman spoke to the album's relationship with the revival of that "genre": "We never really meant to dig into the whole indie sleaze thing. I'm also not in New York. I think people are actually having a lot of fun there. Like any genre, there's a lot of people trying to do exactly the thing that The Strokes and other artists did 20 years ago; to that I ask, why? I think you should do that and put a twist on it, and mesh it into your own thing."
And so they did. Check out "Wish 4" below.
