A brand-new adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie is heading to our screens very soon – but one of its series stars has revealed initial reservations about taking on a role in the show.
Frequent Mike Flanagan collaborator, Samantha Sloyan, has said that she didn't initially know whether her new Carrie role would be too similar to the character she played in one of Flanagan's previous productions.
Revealing what drew her to the project, Sloyan said in a press pack for the series: "As a tween who loved scary movies, I had of course seen the De Palma movie and loved it.
"When Mike told me he was thinking of me for Margaret, I was honoured but also concerned it might be too like the character Beverly Keane I had played in his series Midnight Mass."
She went on: "Beverly was a fanatically religious, self righteous terror. Once I read his Carrie I understood that these were two very different characters. He was imagining a new Margaret, altogether."
Sloyan is no stranger to working with Flanagan, having starred in the likes of Hush, The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Life of Chuck, The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Whilst she was more recently seen in episodes of The Pitt's premiere season, Sloyan will be starring in Carrie as the titular character's religious mother, Margaret White.

Speaking more about their dynamic in the new series, Sloyan teased: "I believe that Margaret is anchored first and foremost in love for her daughter. I think the tragedy comes from the fear that sparks.
"What’s more terrifying than harm coming to the thing you love most? I found that Margaret’s ferocity, what makes her dangerous, is her reaction to that fear. The lengths she is willing to go to protect her daughter."
The synopsis for the series, which also stars Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard, says: "Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Sloyan).
"After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence."
