The Day of the Jackal season 2 officially has a release window.

Eddie Redmayne leads the hit thriller as the international assassin known as 'The Jackal', barely avoiding capture by intelligence agent Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch) in the season 1 finale.

Speaking at the 2026 Edinburgh TV Festival, Meghan Lyvers (Sky's Director of Original Drama, UK&I) has confirmed that season 2 is "in the edit" and is set to return in spring 2027 – good news for fans who have been waiting for more since November 2024.

The cast of season 2 is also shaping up, with Matt Bomer reportedly joining the fray as a new villain. Weruche Opia (Bait) and Pablo Schreiber (His & Hers) have also joined the cast.

Meanwhile, David Harrower is taking over showrunner duties from creator Ronan Bennett.

He told Variety that there were "lots of elements from the novel that we didn't utilise in season 1" that could be folded into future instalments – and let known his intention for season 2 to be "another very lavish" thriller.

Elsewhere, Lyvers teased other returning series for Sky, including Gangs of London season 4.

She also confirmed that Mr Bigstuff season 2 is currently in production, and teased new shows like Meantime (based on Frankie Boyle's book) and legal drama War.
