The Beach Boys have abruptly cancelled their ‘Pet Sounds 60’ tour dates.

The iconic psych-pop group were supposed to commence their tour celebrating the 60th anniversary of their seminal album ‘Pet Sounds’ today (September 24). Last July, the band rescheduled these dates till September, which was to allow the Beach Boys’ remaining founding member Mike Love, to rest and “recharge”.

Now, the band have axed their shows in Massachussetts, Pennsylvania, and two shows in South Carolina. No explanation was given for the cancellation.

Venues planned to host the Beach Boys such as the Univest Performance Center in Quakertown and Alabama Theatre in North Myrtle Beach have said the cancellation was due to “circumstances beyond [our] control.”

The band are supposed to recommence their tour on October 9 at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois. has reached out to the Beach Boys’ representatives for comment.

Multiple concerns for Love’s health on tour have been noted as the tour has gone by.

After one May 30 concert, a reviewer for  said Love’s voice was “reduced to a whisper, all warbled, strange, and barely there”. Days after that review went up, The Beach Boys axed a series of dates due to Love suffering from an unspecified illness.

Love is the only remaining original member of the band left, following the exit of Bruce Johnston earlier this year and the recent death of their iconic frontman Brian Wilson, who died last June aged 82.

In an obituary,  celebrated the singer as a “culture-defining innovator who represented pop music’s awakening”, adding that his death saw him “leaving behind a legacy of pop symphonies”.
