*Warning - contains spoilers for Ted Lasso season 4 episode 9.*
The penultimate episode of Ted Lasso season 4 saw a monumental moment in the show's history, as long-standing, beloved character Mae, the bartender at Ted's favourite pub and a Richmond superfan, died suddenly whilst attending a game.
While Annette Badland, who plays the character, has already reacted to her departure, we have now heard from some of the other cast members, with Siobhan and Niamh stars Rex Hayes and Aisling Sharkey speaking exclusively with Radio Times.
On their reaction to first reading the shock death in the script, Hayes said "it was epic," while Sharkey noted that "the rumour mill was circling before we read it."
"The rumour mill was scary, and I sort of felt the same way as I would like in real life," Hayes added. "Truly, it was a big moment, and it felt like it was a big moment for not only for these characters but for the Lasso-verse, I think it's a big one."

Sharkey noted that "Annette’s such a beloved person on set," while Hayes said: "Yeah, it's a beautiful moment, and so to contrast that with the team celebrating is really, really clever, and I thought they did a beautiful job."
"And I remember the day so well," Sharkey added. "We were warming up on the pitch at like 7:30 am and I think someone had heard from someone, and I went through my own kind of process of ‘Oh, this season is really churning the universe and big things are moving and happening'. But it lends itself to the story well, and she is an absolute one of a kind legend."
"She will be so dearly missed from the show, oh my god," she continued.

The episode was an emotional one all round, as it also featured a dedication at the end to the late Anthony Head, whose character Rupert factored heavily into the plot, even though he didn't make an appearance on screen.
