Taylor Swift made a surprise cameo at the most recent episode of – crashing Dakota Johnson’s monologue and also meeting Turnstile.
The appearance came as Johnson returned to the iconic sketch show to host for the third time. During the episode, she kicked things off with an opening monologue that referenced her dating history – which has included Chris Martin and Role Model – and how her friends have always been supportive of her choice of partner.
“I have really good friends. They don’t judge me for dating these men; they’re actually really supportive,” she explained, before inviting Swift to the stage and introducing her as “my literal therapist”.
“I’m not your therapist, actually,” Swift clarified, quipping that the actor “just shows up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and asks if I want some.” She also joked that Johnson is prone to “flopping” onto her sofa and spilling the details about her latest romantic drama, to which Swift doesn’t know what to say other than “damn, that’s crazy”.
“Is that not a therapist?” Johnson quipped.
Swift then made an appearance again later in the show, coming out for the musical performance towards the end of the night – which saw Turnstile break out a passionate performance of ‘Birds’, followed later by ‘I Care’ and ‘Dull’.
It marked a rare performance from a hardcore band on the show, with reporting that they were the first act from that genre to play the live show since Fear performed back in 1981.
At the end of their set, Swift and the rest of the cast gathered on the stage to close out the show, and she came out holding a cake to celebrate Johnson’s birthday.
“Thank you for having my birthday with me!” the host shared to the audience before hugging Swift. Check out more clips from the show below.
Swift and Johnson have been close friends for years now, and the actor was one of the guests at Swift’s wedding to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce earlier this year, when they tied the knot at Madison Square Garden.
More recently, the actor also starred alongside Colin Farrell in the music video for Swift’s new single ‘Patient Zero, which premiered at the 2026 VMAs.
As for Turnstile, the appearance came just one night after the Baltimore band performed at Austin City Limits in Texas, and it capped a huge period for the band following the release of ‘Never Enough’ in June last year. ‘Birds’ won Best Metal Performance at the Grammys in February, while ‘Never Enough’ took home Best Rock Album.
In August, they followed it with ‘Never Enough: Versions’, a complete reworking of the album featuring collaborators including Elton John, Hayley Williams, Blood Orange, A.G. Cook, Julien Baker, Four Tet and Slayyyter.
Their slot on followed KATSEYE’s debut appearance on last week’s season premiere. Rosalía is due to serve as musical guest next Saturday (October 10), when Shane Gillis hosts the show.
