Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone spin-off reveals casting for a young Kayce Dutton

Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone spin-off Marshals has found its young Kayce Dutton, with Berlin Enrique Nelson cast to play a teenage version of the character made famous by Luke Grimes.

Nelson is set to appear in Marshals season 2 episode 4, titled Blast Radius, in what looks to be a flashback glimpse of the Dutton family's past. It is not yet clear whether the role will recur beyond that single episode.

Nelson is a fresh actor to the TV industry, having appeared in Netflix's Poser. The synopsis for his starring Marshals episode reads: "As Kayce and Andrea (Ash Santos) struggle to keep their personal anxieties in check, they begin spending their off-hours tracking fugitives.

"When one capture reveals the whereabouts of a notorious bomber who previously slipped through Cal's fingers, the team is pulled into a dangerous pursuit with old wounds at stake. Meanwhile, threats against Belle (Arielle Kebbel) move frighteningly close to home, and Miles (Tantaka Means) finds himself hiding information from Maddie (Morgan Lindholm) about Cal’s cancer."

Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton in Marshals, sat at a bar, wearing a shirt and a stetson and talking to a woman.

Grimes continues to lead the series as the adult Kayce, the youngest Dutton son who leaves the ranch behind to join an elite US Marshals unit operating across Montana.

Marshals, billed as a Yellowstone story, has since become a strong performer for the franchise, keeping Grimes's character at the centre of the expanding Yellowstone universe.

Alongside Grimes, the main cast includes Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin, Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner, Ash Santos as Andrea Cruz and Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle. Familiar Yellowstone faces also carry over, with Brecken Merrill returning as Tate Dutton, Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty as Mo.

The casting of a younger Kayce suggests the second season intends to dig further into the character's history, filling in moments from a childhood only ever hinted at in the original Yellowstone. For now, Nelson's appearance is confirmed for Blast Radius, with the wider scope of the role still under wraps.

The new season kicked off earlier this month, bringing the drama from the first episode and seeing the return of Grimes, as well as Tatanka Means and Ash Santos.

The new batch of episodes went into production in June, after the series was renewed back in March. It is one of two ongoing Yellowstone spin-offs, along with Dutton Ranch, which has also been renewed and which stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, reprising their roles as Beth and Rip.
