South London duo Sandhouse announce new EP, Pollyanna

Formed by Anna Sutherland and Caspar Holloway, Sandhouse made their debut last year with their first EP, , and have since released singles "Make Me Small", "Snapdragon", "Pollyanna", and today, new track "Gasoline" — introducing the duo's blend of grunge-inspired guitar, trip-hop production, and alt-pop.

Speaking about the track, the pair explain: "'Gasoline' is about being trapped in a relationship that feeds on the softest, most fragile parts of yourself, and how realising this after leaving tarnishes memories you once treasured. We wanted the start of the song to reflect the feeling of a perfect day underlined with the ominous feeling that something is not quite right. The chorus is meant to be a moment of clarity before the long outro which musically is representing this idea that you're trapped."

takes its name from Eleanor H. Porter's optimistic heroine, exploring the impulse to keep believing in someone despite mounting reasons not to. "Writing this music was part of a healing process and a way to untangle all the complicated feelings that arise from escaping from a terrible situation," Sutherland explains.

For Sutherland, writing became a way to take back control of experiences that had left her feeling powerless, shaping both the lyrics and her vocal performances. "We often talk about the songs being spells or me having magical powers," she explains. "For the vocal recording for parts of the EP I imagined I was a giant monster that was part woman, part crow when I stepped up to the microphone."

The duo have sold out headline shows at London venues Corsica Studios, The Lexington and Peckham Audio, and have toured with Dove Ellis, PORIJ, she's green and Panic Shack. They play Neighbourhood Festival in Manchester on 17 October, followed by dates supporting MOULD in London, Manchester and Leeds.
