Emily Borrowman (bass/vocals) and Atley King (guitars) expanded their lineup for the release, now joined by Rudi Neubrander on drums and Wilson Woods on keys. The quartet wrote the album after relocating from Vancouver to Brooklyn. It follows February's self-released covers EP , which featured six shoegaze reworkings of Norah Jones, Owl City, Field Medic, and others, as well as their 2024 debut album if you were here i'd be home now.

King said "milkweed butterfly" was written from the "perspective of a child experiencing anxiety and depression with no way to understand or contextualize those feelings." It was recorded with Jackson Baker of witches exist in Austin, Texas.

Generally, the album's lyrics were inspired by Borrowman’s move from Vancouver to Brooklyn and cover girlhood, grief, and lost innocence. “That’s something that I am pretty intentional with in our music: singing to a girl audience and singing about my experience,” she said.

Smush are on an extensive US tour supporting she’s green, with headlining shows across the West Coast and Midwest in November. No UK dates have been announced yet.
