The Scottish legends spent 2025 on the road, playing some of their biggest live shows since 1985. Completing a full global tour, Simple Minds took this energy into the studio, mapping out a return-to-roots record.
Out on January 29th, ‘Sacrosanct’ is fuelled by their tenacious concert energy, and a keen awareness of their new wave and art-rock roots.
Frontman Jim Kerr muses: “We called the albumbecause after a lifetime of doing this — nearly fifty years of writing songs together — it’s stopped feeling like a career and started feeling like something closer to faith. Calling the record isn’t an exaggeration. It’s just honest.”
Part of a trilogy alongside recent albums ‘Walk Between Worlds’ and ‘Direction Of The Heart’, the record contains lead single ‘Beginner Boys’.
A bravura opening gambit full of heart and warmth, Kerr reveals that the lyric was inspired by watching his twin grandsons grow up, and what it means to be a man today – “how strength, tenderness, courage, and gentleness might still belong together, even when the wider culture around them can send mixed signals. It’s less a statement than a question I hope they’ll spend their lives answering for themselves.”
