The new reissues will be made available on limited edition vinyl variants, following the band's breakup after the death of founder Tres Warren in March 2020, and a tribute album recorded in his honour, Songs for Tres, released in 2021 on Sacred Bones.
Psychic Ills first began in 2003 with Warren, Tom Gluibizzi and an EMU SP1200. The pair self-released a 7" and quickly grew to a four-piece, adding Warren's then partner Elizabeth Hart on bass and Brian Tamborello on drums. Although the original lineup did not last beyond the first album, Warren and Hart remained the core members of the band throughout.
For their first album, , the band sought to translate their live experience onto tape. "It was exciting to be in the studio as a band for the first time," says Hart, "especially with access to other equipment which allowed us to experiment more during the recording process."
2016's reflected an evolution for Psychic Ills, evolution, drawing from pop, country and gospel, following their 2011 debut Sacred Bones release , and tours alongside the likes of Mazzy Star and the Butthole Surfers. "We worked on for three years, and during that time Tres and I were constantly seeing art together, having endless conversations and discussions about different films and albums that inspired us," says Hart. "In the end we made exactly the album we had wanted to make."
