Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider movie finally gets release date confirmed – plus mystery film scheduled for 2029

Disney has revealed when fans can expect Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy’s hotly-anticipated MCU movie, Ghost Rider, to land, while also unveiling the release date for a mystery project.

Ghost Rider, which stars Gosling in the lead and is being helmed by Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy, is set to hit cinemas on 28 July 2028, according to Disney’s updated release calendar.

It will be the third Marvel film released in 2028, with Black Panther 3 set for 15 December 2028, while the as-yet untitled X-Men movie will drop on 5 May 2028.

Disney has also announced a release date for an untitled Marvel movie, with the mystery project set to be released on 9 November 2029. An official title, cast, director and plot details are yet to be revealed, and fans will have to wait for Marvel to make an official announcement about the movie.

Ryan Gosling stood on stage looking at the crowd with a slight shocked expression. He is wearing a red jacket and white t-shirt.

It was announced that Gosling had joined the MCU as Ghost Rider back in July during Marvel Studios' panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

"Wow, is this really happening?" Gosling said as he addressed the crowd. "As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time."

Gosling then welcomed Levy to the stage, adding: “I’m having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed Deadpool & Wolverine.

"I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans. Gosling is the absolute s**t. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter, and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, 'Bro, let’s ride.' We’ll see you in 2028!"

Ghost Rider is one of Marvel Comics’ most popular anti-heroes, and several characters have taken on the mantle over the years, including Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch and Robbie Reyes.

It’s still unclear which version of Ghost Rider Gosling will play.

When president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige was asked at SDCC 2026 which iteration the actor would appear as, he told ComicBook: "I am going to let Ryan reveal what he wants to reveal when he wants to reveal it, and what he wanted to reveal today was he's playing Ghost Rider."

He continued: "He's a huge fan of the comics. He did come to us, particularly with a specific vision based on some particular comics, but I'll let him unveil that as he wants to."
