Jagex has officially announced that RunScape 4 is in development.
Shown at the conclusion of a series of keynotes given for RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the reveal showed off seemingly a brand-new world and engine.
Originally born out of a proposed expansion for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the project was eventually realised to have the potential to be something far bigger, turning into RuneScape 4.
With the visuals shown in a short teaser trailer for the game, it's relatively clear to see the inspirations taken from Dragonwilds with regard to the visuals.
Unfortunately for us, the game is still very early in development, with Mod North confirming on stage that it may be several years before we get to see the game for ourselves.
As for what the game will entail, it's not entirely clear at the moment.
Mod North did mention that the game will be an MMO, or rather he repeated the words 'massively, multiplayer and online" a few times.

So, it certainly looks like RS4 will be a standalone MMO experience separate from either RuneScape or OSRS – and not a successor to RuneScape.
It wasn't the only major announcement to come at the end of the show, either.
A RuneScape animated series was also officially announced at Jagex's RuneFest in Brimingham.
The animation is being made in partnership with YouTuber Charlie White, better known as MoistCr1tikal.
It's being made alongside the production team working on adaptations of fellow video games Bloodborne and Death Stranding.
Sadly, just like RuneScape 4, many of the actual specifics of the animation remain shrouded in mystery, so we'll just have to wait to hear more on both fronts.
Thankfully, we got plenty of news from the other games in the Jagex arsenal earlier in the day, with plenty of new content announced for both OSRS and Dragonwilds.
