After a week of rampant leaks showing Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay, developers Rockstar Games have finally addressed the situation a day before the "extended look" Netflix premiere.
It is currently unknown how the leaker was able to gain access to a build of GTA 6. Some had speculated that perhaps it was part of a unique marketing campaign, but the statement from Rockstar would suggest otherwise.
In the statement, which was posted to X (formerly Twitter), Rockstar said, "It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team", adding that the leaks are "not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time."

After multiple delays, Rockstar is all too aware that players are frustrated they haven’t seen more of the game in the run-up to launch, saying "We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has – from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know."
This has extended to the Netflix premiere too, with Rockstar saying "It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready", but that the team knows that they need to "exceed your expectations".

With the risk of the build being leaked, let alone more gameplay clips, Rockstar hopes that "everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19".
The conversation surrounding the leaks is polarised. Many have offered and shown their support for Rockstar, but others have been untroubled, particularly after the studio's decision to not provide physical disc copies of the game at launch, against the wider context of Sony stopping disc production in 2028.
