Rising Irish songwriter has shared his new single ‘The Parrot’ in full.
Set to play an intimate headline run this winter – including a show at London’s Lower Third on December 4th – McGrath has just shared new single ‘The Parrot’.
The song touches on his youthful experiences on the football pitch, a space where McGrath absorbed a spirit of camaraderie and competitiveness.
The video takes the artist back to his roots – the idea grew from his involvement with , a Belfast organisation. He explains…
From a very young age, I’ve been obsessed with football. Much like music, it’s always been there for me when I needed it. But as music started becoming my main focus, I realised I needed another outlet.
I heard about Forze back in Belfast and started going along to their drop-in games. My friends and I would talk about our concerns and delights on the way to and from football. Those walks became almost ritualistic. You talk, I listen. Swap.
I realised I’d found an outlet within an outlet. There was something about the simple, childlike innocence of walking to football together that stripped away the shame of talking about your worries with your mates. Then you got to go and get stuck in on the pitch. What a result.
When it came to making the video for ‘The Parrot’, I knew it had to be filmed on those pitches. It felt like the perfect way to bring the song’s message to life.
Sam Quattromano, founder at Forze adds on the video:
“We’re all about getting people together through football. It’s a healthy plan to have with your mates and somewhere you can create lifelong memories. We’re proud to offer a place where people can improve their physical and mental health, all while enjoying the game we love. Hearing McGrath talk about his experience with Forze, especially those simple walks to and from football with his mates, reminds people of how valuable it is to get out, get active and socialise.”
The video stars local actor Robert Patrick Hamilton (Hope Street), and was directed by fast-rising Belfast born, London based director – check it out below.
