London’s most enigmatic quartet have shared new single ‘Stadium Drive’, alongside the announcement of their debut album ‘1,2,3’, arriving October 30th via section1.

On ‘Stadium Drive’, frontman Marco Pini’s voice is twisted and distorted, broken guitars and synths pushing and pulling against a vaguely steady groove. Despite their small catalog so far, ‘Stadium Drive’ has all the idiosyncrasies RIP Magic have been offering over the last year or so. It’s imbued with glitchy textures and sampled vocals, an after-hours cut that has the genetics of a boom-bap-saturated Nine Inch Nails track or an obscure Meat Beat Manifesto b-side. The band are playing with the notion of ‘post punk’, a term that has become bastardised and watered down within an inch of its life in recent years, but instead of down the middle guitar riffs and a pseudo-preppy look, RIP Magic lean heavily into the darker, electronic underbelly of both their influences and the sounds of London.

Accompanying the track has come a pair of videos on the band’s Instagram, one by @be3n1s and the other by @yazzjansen. The former is a whiplash-inducing disarray of internet culture moments, and then Jansen’s video is a series of vignettes of nuns smoking in a field, serene and Coppola-esque in imagery but the feel completely shifted by the sounds of RIP Magic.
