Richard Osman has confirmed that a second of his crime novels is heading to Netflix, revealing that We Solve Murders is now in development as a series with the streamer.
Speaking on The One Show yesterday evening (Wednesday 2 September), the author and broadcaster stayed guarded on specifics but confirmed the project was in the works.
Asked outright whether an adaptation was happening, he said: "Well, I can't say. But yes. Certainly that's what we're up to at the moment with our friends at Netflix. That'll be very exciting."
And it seems as though Osman will be having a hands-on role too. When asked whether he would be involved, he replied: "Yes, I think so."
Netflix is yet to formally confirm the project so we can anticipate more exciting details in due course.
Osman teased some of the globe-trotting settings of his novel, saying: "The lovely thing is, it's all set in these beautiful places, like the first book. We Solve Murders, you're in St Lucia, you're in the south of Ireland. They're really beautiful places, so it's going to look amazing, I'll say that."
After the success of The Thursday Murder Club and the stars aligning for that production, there's no telling what's in store for We Solve Murders – but fans now have a major series to look forward to.
Published in 2024, We Solve Murders launched a new series for Osman, separate from the Thursday Murder Club books. It follows Amy Wheeler, a private security operative, and her retired-detective father-in-law Steve Wheeler, who team up after Amy is seemingly framed while protecting a bestselling author on a private island.

As her clients start turning up dead and she realises she may be the target, the pair chase a money-smuggling conspiracy across international locations. The novel's audiobook was narrated by Nicola Walker, and a follow-up, We Chase Shadows, is due out later this month.
The move follows Netflix's film adaptation of Osman's debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club, which premiered on the streamer last August with a starry ensemble including Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant and Sir Jonathan Pryce.
Osman has said he could only sign off on one of the Thursday Murder Club books for that outing, adding that he would prefer to adapt the others himself. There has been no news yet on whether the remaining titles in that five-book series will reach the screen.
