PINS announce fourth album, If I'm Alive Now, Then I Was Dead

PINS — formed by friends Faith Vern, Lois MacDonald, Kyoko Swan and Abbi Phillips — released their album in 2013, followed by in 2015, their EP featuring Iggy Pop in 2017, and in 2020. As their first new full-length release in six years, If I'm Alive Now, Then I Was Dead is said to mark a rebirth for the band following over a decade together.

Alongside the announcement, the band have previewed the album with new single "All Over". The track was recorded at Stockport's Resonance Studios and engineered and mixed by Joel Patchett (King Krule, Let's Eat Grandma), with the band taking a more organic approach to the recording process. The song calls on PINS' early influences, ranging from The Ronettes to The Stooges.

"'All Over' started as a demo about desire," the band explain. "It was one of the most fully formed songs that we had when we started working on our new album. The structure and everything was already there, it was just about getting the sounds down. The energy is driving and it feels a little angular."

If I'm Alive Now, Then I Was Dead was created as an exploration of existentialism, investigating themes of true love and the complexities of life and death, with the album's title being lifted from the Sylvia Plath poem, "Love Letter".

PINS toured live earlier this year, and last year commemorated ten years of with a series of special anniversary shows. Marking their return, they are set to announce further tour dates soon.
