took part in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge this week, covering the classic ‘Lithium’.

The songwriter’s new album ‘Lost Weekend’ is out now, a release that is gaining across the board praise.

Thankfully, the run included her appearance on long-sanding BBC Radio 1 staple Live Lounge. Phoebe Bridgers recorded a stripped back take on album centrepiece ‘Bobby’ for the broadcaster, and – as is tradition – elected to perform a cover.

Picking ‘Lithium’ by , she tapped into the song’s emotional core, recasting it as an alt-folk hymnal. Curiously, it winds up sounding like a song from The Beatles’ ‘White Album’ – her treatment of the melody combines with acoustic fingerpicking to recall some of John Lennon’s work, while also sounding (naturally) utterly true to herself.

Kurt Cobain did of course once describe Nirvana as Black Sabbath meets The Beatles – guess Phoebe just dug out one pole of influence from the song.
