says he played Vega as “sort of asexual” in the upcoming film, explaining that the character is so obsessed with himself that “there’s no one that can compete”.
The country singer and actor spoke to Attitude on the red carpet at the 2026, in partnership with and electrified by , about taking on the role of the iconic video game villain in the upcoming movie.
Vega has long been interpreted as queer-coded by some fans, but when asked whether Peck had consciously played the character as queer, the singer offered a different interpretation.
“He thinks he’s the most beautiful person on the planet, so there’s no one that can compete” – Orville Peck on ‘s Vega
“I think I played him as in love with himself,” Peck said.
“Most of all, I think he’s sort of asexual because he’s like… he thinks he’s the most beautiful person on the planet, so there’s no one that can compete.”
Peck’s take on the character adds a distinctly self-obsessed dimension to his portrayal of the villain, who he described as a “narcissistic psychopath”.
Asked what he personally related to in Vega, Peck joked: “I mean, he’s like a narcissistic psychopath. So not much mentally.”
However, Peck did find a connection between his own background and the character’s physicality.
“I grew up a ballet dancer and I did flamenco and that kind of stuff,” he explained. “So it was really fun to incorporate all of that into his fighting style, which is, you know, very sort of like big flourishes, things like that.”
