Out now, it’s a project that has been years in the making. A definitive art-rap figure, Open Mike Eagle has known the producer for years, and they’d always promised to do something in-depth together.

As it happens, Kenny Segal has been building and holding back beats just for this purpose. Loosely dubbed the world’s first half-whimsical break-up album, new project ‘DOOMED!’ is out now.

Intricate while also being directed, the material finds Open Mike Eagle right in the pocket, while Kenny Segal’s production has scarcely been better.

Guests include billy woods – the album is being released by Backwoodz Studioz, after all – and Gothic Tropic, amongst others.

“In recent years, Kenny made it very clear that he wasn’t trying to keep having one or two beats on my projects; he wanted to build something,” Open Mike Eagle explains.  “I was able to convince him to let me use a couple beats for Neighborhood Gods Unlimited [Mike’s recent solo endeavour] with the caveat we would focus on our thing next.  Then my relationship fell apart right when we started working, and it was like, ‘Perfect, I have a lot to say about this.’”
