"When The Heat Dies Down" follows previous singles "Premium", "Mirror Mirror", and title track "Canary". As the album's closer, it offers an optimistic end of a collection of songs informed by David Lynch films, Roland S. Howard's , and John Healy’s memoir The Grass Arena.
Discussing the new single, Mod shares: “I tried to outrun the song in some ways and subsequently it became the last one to be written for the album. I got a buzz from finishing it. It feels familiar and gives me an impression of the world when the windscreen isn’t fogged up by seriousness.”
