follows Mod's 2022 debut , which was also produced by Ryder-Jones — previously the guitarist of The Coral — with title track "Canary" expanding on the mood of the album. To capture its isolated, nocturnal feel, Mod spent a month holed up in a rundown house in West Cork to write the song.

"Jagged thought processes were a big part of where these songs came from," he recalls. "Being disillusioned and feeling like a cynic and maybe becoming not so easy to be around yourself. That's the sort of world that a lot of it came from."

While exploring his own internal psychogeography, Mod also recalls watching and David Lynch films, reading John Healy's memoir and listening to Rowland S. Howard's . "Consuming that sort of stuff definitely informed the record," he says.

While is formed of more full-bodied arrangements – Ryder-Jones urged Mod to make a record "with a pair of shoulders" – the album was finished in just twelve days with drummer Phil Murphy. "Recording with Bill just works," Mod notes. "We have a shared vernacular and there's an understanding of our work dynamic."

Ryder-Jones adds: "I'm a fan of his writing. He has a way with words that is very unique to him, and that counts for so much. It's actually really easy to work with Oisin."
