Norwegian folk-fusion group Diket announce debut album DIKET I SOLEN I DIKET

The album follows a changing-of-the-seasons structure, beginning with January slush, through to April sun, onto early-summer barbecues, and finishing with November's frozen puddles and short days. Its lyrics, written by Levina Storåkern, address loneliness, despondency, belonging, love, the body, and financial insecurity. Oslo recurs as a city that's challenging to be an artist in.

Musically, Diket construct arrangements around traditional folk textures with synthetic layers, drawing on post-rock as much as bygone folk standards.

The album title roughly translates to THE DITCH IN THE SUN IN THE DITCH. Speaking of the title, Storåkern said, "We’ve chosen to write it in all caps to keep it ambiguous whether DIKET refers to us as a band and as people, or to an actual ditch. DIKET in the sun in the ditch in the sun in the ditch in the sun…"

Diket made their debut in 2024 with the Grammis-nominated EP Och sen kom vintern. Since then, the band has toured and shared stages with Valkyrien Allstars and Lankum, and performed at Roskilde, SPOT Festival, and Trondheim Jazzfest. Members also play in acts including Benedikt, Ævestaden, and Hey Gloria.
