New wavers The Ninth Wave return after four years with There’s No Such Thing as Death

The record was made in summer 2026 at Black Bay Studio on the Hebridean island of Great Bernera with producer Dan Austin, known for his work with Massive Attack and Pixies. The band party departed from synth layers towards a pared-back sound. The four-piece – Haydn Park-Patterson (vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar), Amelia Kidd (vocals, bass guitar), Calum Stewart (drums, percussion), and Kyalo Searle-Mbullu (electric guitar) – recorded the LP all together, saying the time away made them tighter as a unit ten years on from their formation.

“SD54 FXZ” arrives with a live performance video directed by Michael Roddy. The band will support the release with headline shows in April 2027, including The Art School in Glasgow on 9 April, The Hope & Ruin in Brighton on 13 April, Colours in London on 14 April, and YES in Manchester on 15 April. The Manchester venue has already been upgraded. Tickets are on sale now.

Before the album, The Ninth Wave play Usher Hall in Edinburgh supporting The Twilight Sad on 6 December, Sings The Greys: a celebration of Frightened Rabbit in Stirling on 11 December, and David Byrne’s Night at Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow, on 25 January 2027. They will also mark the release with in-stores at Reflex Records in Newcastle on 14 March, Rough Trade Nottingham on 15 March, Rough Trade Bristol on 16 March, Banquet Records in Kingston on 17 March, and Crash Records in Leeds on 18 March.
