is being treated for cancer.
The band – alongside Joy Division – will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year, but soon after the announcement was made Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert confirmed they would taking a back seat on live activities.
The pair are married, with Stephen Morris subsequently giving an interview to Rolling Stone to discuss the occasion, and the band’s illustrious history.

A comment in the interview revealed a “pretty serious” illness, sparking concerns from fans. Now it has been revealed that keyboardist Gillian Gilbert is actually the one suffering from cancer.
In a note to clarify the situation, Gillian Gilbert explained that she “like many other people” is living with cancer, and that the pair are “enormously grateful for everyone’s kindness and support”.

Thank you everyone who has reached out following Stephen’s recent interview with Rolling Stone. We have both been incredibly touched by all the kind words and well wishes. I would like to gently clarify a misunderstanding from the interview, in the course of which comments were misinterpreted leading people to believe that Stephen is seriously ill. Thankfully, he is well. It is in fact me, who like many other people, is living with cancer.
We completely understand how the misunderstanding arose and simply wanted to ensure that the correct information was shared. We are enormously grateful for everyone’s kindness and support and would appreciate some privacy as I continue with my treatment. Gillian xx.
