Netflix has given fans a first look at its upcoming docuseries celebrating the life and legacy of Matthew Perry.
The three-part series, which is titled The One About Matthew Perry, marks the first in-depth documentary about the actor, following his journey from rising comedic star to world-famous celebrity, as well as his battles with addiction.
Perry, who rose to fame playing funnyman Chandler Bing on the New York-set sitcom, died following an accidental overdose in Los Angeles in October 2023, at the age of 54.
The new trailer gives viewers a glimpse of the range of interviews with Perry’s loved ones which feature in the new docuseries, including his sister Mia Perry Bowick, who opens up about her brother’s struggles with addiction in the footage and says: “My brother would talk about that feeling of emptiness or loneliness that he couldn’t quite fill.”
She added that Perry spent $7 million trying to get sober, adding "that’s how seriously he took the disease".
Perry’s own words can also be heard in the trailer, as he says in an archive interview: “I said, ‘God, you can do anything to me, just please make me famous.’ I got a phone call and I instantly knew my whole life was going to change. But God did not forget the other part.”
He adds that getting famous "didn’t fix what was inside of me, this didn’t do what I thought it would do".

The documentary was announced earlier this month, with director Mary Robertson saying in a statement at the time: "Matthew Perry was one of the comedic geniuses of our time.
"Through his many films, TV, and stage performances, and his unforgettable portrayal of Chandler Bing, he made millions of us laugh, connect, and feel a little less alone. He also gave us so much more by bravely speaking about addiction. Yet the public only knew part of his story."

Bowick said: "It's taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life, to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction," she said.
She added: "Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved.
"I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind."
