A titanic drummer and a pivotal figure in UK jazz, Moses Boyd will return with his Autumn with his first album in over six years. Out on October 30th, ‘Songs For Sinners’ is broad and complex, utilising a plethora of guests to bring his multi-faceted vision to life.
New single ‘More To Life’ is one of the album’s core statements. The beat moves from jazz elasticity to rugged DNB, while the song itself acts as an exploration of faith.
Reflecting the pull of spiritual enquiry while also noting the self-doubt that can accompany this, the vocal from is an act of gospel truth-telling.
Introducing the song, Moses comments…
“More To Life’ was the first song I fully composed for this album, and my first attempt at writing lyrics. I was trying to bring a few things together — bridging breakbeat rhythms and jazz forms while also capturing the energy of gospel music. I wanted the lyrics to leave space for different interpretations, reflecting the push and pull of faith and the questions that come with it, rather than offering any fixed answers. Shantéh brought her whole heart and power to the song, and in just a couple of takes, made the whole thing come alive.”
