"'Mount Pleasant' was written about a relationship that takes the form of a dog," Clayton said. "But you love the dog, and you try to give it the best life you can while you can."
The single introduces Cash Out in Kid Gloves – recorded across three locations: a residency in Woburn, Quebec, a nineteenth-century heritage home in Clayton's native Peterborough, Ontario, and a studio in Montreal. The band aimed to capture the imperfections of playing live, then upended those performances through processing, edits, and post-production tricks.
The new album follows up The Aching Taste of Blue, recorded to tape in August 2023 and inspired by an online songwriting course Clayton took during the pandemic to try and re-inspire his writing.
clay pigeon will play a Montreal album release at Sala Rosa on 13 November, followed by Ottawa’s Live! On Elgin on 27 November, Toronto’s The Burdock on 28 November, and Peterborough on 29 November.
