has shared details of his new album ‘FUDGE’.

The Mercury winning songwriter shared a full statement with fans yesterday (September 23rd), in which he revealed he had suffered a stroke. Working through some serious health difficulties, Michael Kiwanuka explained that he intended to continue with the release of a new album, which he has called ‘FUDGE’.

Now the full details are online. ‘FUDGE’ will be released on October 23rd, and it features 12 tracks.

Stepping in to a different lane, Michael Kiwanuka opted for a different production method – prior collaborators Danger Mouse and INFLO step back, with the songwriter overseeing initial sessions at a studio space close to his Southampton home.

His live band’s multi-instrumentalist Joe Connell worked throughout, while Dom Marks was brought in to sprinkle some production magic dust on top during the final weeks of the process.

The record opens with a quote from legendary jazz musician Chick Corea, a rumination on the nature of beauty, and its relationship with artistic independence.

Michael Kiwanuka expands on this: “You have to work out what you think is beautiful and trust and believe in that. That’s what being an artist is. You’ve got to keep following your nose. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense but it will.”
